Leh: Like other parts of the region, Dussehra festival, marking the victory of truth over evil, was celebrated with religious fervour and gaiety at historic Pologround here. Thousands of people participated in the celebration during which effigies of Ravana, Kumbkarna and Meghnatha were consigned to flames.
Commissioner Secretary A K Sahu was the chief guest whereas Principal District & Sessions Judge Leh, O P Bhagat was the special guest on the occasion. The committee members of Hindu Maha Sabha, Leh including Vijay Rishi (chairman), Balbir Singh (President), Shelly Khanna (General Secretary), Diwakar Singh Jasrotia (Vice President), Sharun Bansal (Treasurer), Rajinder Kumar and other dignitaries were also present on the occasion.
The event was organized by the Hindu Maha Sabha, Leh wherein large number of Hindus families residing in Leh enthusiastically participated. Local residents equally enjoyed the festival that was celebrated with great pomp and show. The atmosphere echoed with chanting of ‘Jai Sri Ram’.
Pandit Lalit of Hare Krishna Mandir Leh said that festival is the symbol of good over evil and urged upon the people to follow the good path to win over evils. He also mentioned about the height of effigies and informed that effigies of Kumbhkarna and Meghnatha are 25 feet high while that of Ravana is 30 feet high. He also conveyed his best wishes to the people on the occasion of Dussehra.
Vijay Rishi and other committee members greeted the people on the occasion and hoped that this auspicious festival would be the harbinger of peace, progress and prosperity.
