Jammu, October 2: To commemorate the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party and Media XI Cricket Club Jammu organised a friendly T 20 Cricket match at MA Stadium, here today.

Apni Party General Secretary, Vijay Bakaya (Retd. IAS) was the chief guest, who inaugurated the cricket match after paying floral tributes to the father of the nation, Mahatma Gandhi.

Later, Media XI Cricket Club led by Yash Khajuria won the toss and opted to bat first. Substantive contributions by Sunil Bali, Nitin Thakur, Dev Thakur and Ashu Mehra helped Media XI to register 145/9 runs on the scoreboard in the stipulated 20 overs.

From Apni Party XI, Anmol and Abhinav took 3 wickets each to remain the pick of the bowlers while Jogi and Raghu also shared one wicket apiece.

Chasing the target, Apni Party XI had an impressive start with opening pair of Mohd Asif and Anmol knitted a 50 runs partnership in 8 overs, before skipper Yash Khajuria eliminated Mohd Asif. However, Apni Party XI continued to rotate the strike but the soaring required run rate remained a headache for them. Media XI bowlers bowled tight line and length to mount pressure on the Apni Party batters resulting in an intermittent fall of wickets to restrict them on 119/5 in the stipulated overs, hence lost the match by 26 runs. From Media XI, Yash Khajuria, Nitin Thakur, Sunil Thapa and Sunil Bali took one wicket each.

In the post match presentation, Guest of honour on the occasion, Provincial president – Apni Party Manjeet Singh felicitated both the teams by presenting medals and distributed trophies among the winner and runner up teams. He encouraged both the teams to instill a spirit of positive sportsmanship, so that a healthy society can be founded, as envisaged by the father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi.

Nitin Thakur (19 runs and 1 wicket) from Media XI was declared as player of the match for his all round performance in the Match.

Later, Mr Suroor Singh Jamwal from the ‘ESPATO My Learn Coffee’ – official sponsors for the Media XI Cricket Club, Jammu; released the Jersey of Media XI and appreciated the efforts of the team in promoting sports at different levels.

‘ESPATO My Learn Coffee’ is one of its unique concept-based cafeteria chains, having its outlets at Exchange Road Jammu and Andheri West Mumbai. My Learn Coffee offers a learning ecosystem with a conducive environment for the students and future aspirants to stay focused on their goals while at the same time providing healthy yet gourmet food to keep them healthy.

The event was coordinated by Senior Journalist Ajay Raina – Coordinator Media XI Cricket Club, Jammu.
