Srinagar Oct 01 :- Central Silk Board has released Rs 35 crore to boost silk production in Jammu and Kashmir. With this money, 27 thousand families associated with silkworm rearing will get benefit. Along with this, the state administration has increased the revolving fund from Rs 70 lakh to Rs 3.5 crore to promote silkworm rearing.
This information was given by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha in a workshop on silkworm rearing in Srinagar on Friday. The LG said that 900 silkworm farmers have been directly benefitted under Silk Samagra Phase-I. Houses have been set up for 618 silkworm farmers.
The Silk Board provides funding as needed so that more and more producers and entrepreneurs can benefit in the years to come. The future road map for the overall development of the agriculture sector will ensure global quality production.
He said that the government was focusing on mulberry plantation. On behalf of the Forest Department and the Sericulture Department, work is being done together on the Green Mission. Cocoon is striving to provide market availability as well as other facilities to the growers.
Emphasis on reducing dependence on imported silk
The Lt Governor stressed on the need to use modern technology to reduce dependence on imported silk. Pampore in Kashmir is one of the three important silk producing centers of the country.
The Silk Samagra scheme was launched in 2017-18 under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This not only put the silk production sector on the path of sustainable development but also gave a boost to the silk industry of Jammu and Kashmir. He suggested that with the cooperation of Krishi Vigyan Kendra, positive results have been achieved towards making the silk industry self-reliant.
Check handed over to five progressive farmers
The Lt Governor handed over a check of Rs 1.57-1.57 lakh to five progressive farmers. Upendra Prasad Singh, Secretary, Ministry of Textiles, Manzoor Ahmad Qadri, Director, Sericulture Department were present on the occasion.(AGENCIES)
