Jammu, August 10: To promote Horticulture in highly potential border areas of Khour block with suitable agro climatic conditions, a team headed by Sandeep Gupta, District Level Subject Matter Specialist (Pomlogy) Jammu conducted Farmers Awareness cum Interaction Programme at Battal Panchayat of block Khour today.

Amit Saraf, Horticulture Development Officer, PRI members besides a large number of farmers of the area participated.

Addressing a gathering of farmers, Sandeep Gupta educated them about the government scheme for establishment of orchards with the assistance of the department. “Since, the rainy season is going on and this is the most suitable time for planting of fruit crops,” he said and asked the farmers to come forward, associate with the department, keep a close liaison with the field functionaries  and take maximum benefit of the departmental schemes.

He urged farmers to adopt integrated farming in their fields and avail the benefits on different components viz: Bore Well, water harvesting tanks, Drip irrigation, Mechanization, protected cultivation, tools & implements etc. for upliftment of their socio- economic status.

Earlier, Horticulture Development Officer, Khour Amit Saraf elaborated in detail the Central and UT sponsored schemes of the department. He also briefed the farmers about the technical aspects of fruit plantation and importance of the Horticulture sector in employment generation.
