Jammu Apr 02 :- The Indian army conducted the First edition of the “General Bipin Rawat memorial cricket tournament” in coordination with Mendhar Cricket Association wef  from 02 Mar to 02 Apr 2022 to inculcate sportsmanship, camaraderie and the will to win among the youth in the border tehsil of Mendhar. This event is the first of its kind in Mendhar, and was organised by Mendhar Gunners under the aegis of Ace of Spades Division at the Mendhar Garrison, OP Hill Stadium in memory of Gen Bipin Rawat.

The 32 day sensational cricket tournament extravaganza witnessed the participation of 30 teams, each striving hard to become the ‘Mendhar Champ’. The tournament was conducted on a knock-out basis. The ‘Mendhar Champ’ was Star Club, who defeated jatt 11  by 05 Runs.

Indian Army congratulated the players for their hard-earned success and well-deserved accolades. Col Kapil Bhat felicitated both the winners and the runners up teams with medals and trophies respectively. The event was also witnessed by Mr balram sharma , President Sanatan Dharam Sabha , Sarpanches  and other civil dignitaries. Mendhar Gunners conveyed best wishes to the Mendhar Cricket Association , for the successful organisation the event. He emphasised on the importance of games and sports in our lives and the need to harness the potential in the youth of the present generation.  Army and civil administration together can offer a stable platform to youth to contribute towards nation building.

Mr Anjum Rafiq an artist from Mendhar, paid a tribute to the late CDS General Bipin Rawat with an instant handmade portrait. He then presented this portrait to Indian Army. The prize distribution ceremony was witnessed by many people from the area who enjoyed the cultural programme hosted by Mendhar Gunners.
