Kathua, March 30: With the aim to spread awareness on Drug Demand Reduction, Deputy Commissioner Kathua Rahul Yadav today flagged off a Cycle Rally from Sports Stadium here on Wednesday morning.
The Rally, comprising 35 participants was organised by the Social Welfare Department in collaboration with young cyclists group ‘Bicycle for Change.
Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner called upon the young participants to act as harbinger in spreading the message of Drug Demand Reduction which focuses on minimising the drug menace through community involvement and active participation of youth. He said youngsters must come forward and spread the message regarding the hazardous effects of Drug abuse.
The DC also appealed to parents of drug abuse victims to contact the district administration for timely rehabilitation of their wards. He also exhorted people to play the role of saviours by contributing their bit in bringing the drug addicts into mainstream, instead of ostracising them.
While referring to the role played by Civil and Police Administration in curtailing the cases related to Drug abuse, he further called for active involvement of society to keep a check on growing menace of Drug abuse cases in Kathua.
DSWO Kathua Abdul Rahim said the department has taken up the initiative of spreading the message on Drug Abuse through young children so that they can act as ambassadors to spread the message.
