Jammu, March 08: Taking a break from the mundane of sports events for some time, J&K Sports Council organized a colorful function to celebrate the International Women’s Day in Bhagwati Nagar Indoor Sports Complex today. Many prominent women officers, coaches, house wives, entrepreneurs and others attended the function.
Highlighting the role of women in different fields, speakers spoke their hearts out and appreciated the role played by females in respective fields and nation building.
The special attraction of Day was the live performance of female athletes from gymnastics, Yoga, Fencing and Wushu; which left the audience spellbound.
The function was held in the early hours of the day and the welcome address by Secretary J&K Sports Council set the ball rolling. It was her who floated the idea of organizing such events for the first time by the Sports Council apart from routine sports events. This also marked the first of such kind of function by the Sports Council since its inception.
Speaking on the occasion, Nuzhat Gul took a journey down the memory lane and how the role played by her grandmother helped her family in business in addition to attending daily household chores. She said, women are the chief architect of this society and only she has the power to make it better and progressive. She further added that International Women’s Day is a global day to commemorate the achievements of women. She said, “the day also marks a call to eradicate the gender related bias and bring women at par with men. She further added that women are capable of transforming society with their sheer determination, dedication, grit and wisdom.
Ashu Gupta, Joint Director Planning quoting a famous philosopher said, “God is with woman, she will not fall”, all she needs is a level playing field and see her soaring the skies and carrying others along”.
Prof. Twinkle Suri, Dean Cluster University Jammu highlighted the role of women in upbringing of children and how she shapes and chisels them into future prospectus thus playing a very vital role in the development and growth of the societies across the globe since times immemorial.
Misbah Arjum and, Under Secretary to Youth Services and Sports Department elaborated how education has helped making women financially secure and leads to their emancipation and empowerment.
Advocate Deepika Mahajan said, “Women as a mother is an institution in itself, who defines orientations of a child”. She further added that, women force is a force to reckon with and said that women are capable of transforming society by their wisdom.
The others who spoke on the occasion included female coaches from Sports Council, YSS and women from other walks of life who inspite of all odds are marching in their routine lives.
The function concluded with vote of thanks by Ashok Singh Divisional Sports Officer Jammu, who also anchored the event. The Secretary Sports Council distributed mementos among the participants, speakers, players and coaches followed by high tea for all the participants.
Similar function was also held in the Pologround Indoor Hall, Srinagar, which marked the attendance of women from different walks of life including Government Departments, Sports, Business and social figures etc. The prominent participants included Tanushree (IPS) SP East Srinagar and Samia Rashid, Engineer by profession turned potter.
The Divisional Sports Officer Kashmir, Nuzhat Farooq, while welcoming the guests, highlighted the role played by women in the society. She said, females are second to none and most of the achievers in the sports in J&K this year have been females.
Tanshuree (IPS) while appreciating the role of J&K Sports Council in grooming the female athletes said that she has been visiting J&K Sports Council Training centers for two years by now and it is heartening to see young girls rubbing shoulders with their male counterparts, excelling and improving all the time.
Other participants also underlined the role of women in the growth and development of society in particular and country in general.
