Kupwara, February 21: The District Level Plastic Waste Management Cell members today met here under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kupwara, Imam Din to review the measures taken for controlling of single use plastic in the district.
Addressing the meeting, the DC impressed upon the officers to work in coordination and ensure implementation of guidelines of the Government in letter and spirit to ensure zero percent usage of single use plastic in the district.
The DC directed the Executive Officers of Municipalities to ensure that the entry of single use plastic at toll points in each town is not allowed. He also directed the Executive Engineer I&FC to ensure cleaning of irrigation canals from March 1, 2022.
Earlier, it was given out in the meeting that a cleanliness drive shall be carried out every time before the start of the Block Diwas event.
The meeting also discussed various measures to ensure elimination of single use plastic in the district which include registration of Eco friends/rag pickers, holding of IEC activities, installation of signage boards like beautiful town at every point of each town, besides, lodging of FIRs against violators under Section-278 were also discussed.
