Jammu, February 12: The new initiative by Directorate of Health Services Jammu of setting up Model Emergency Rooms in every district has started showing results and many lives have been saved in Jammu division.

The existing emergency rooms have been upgraded on modern lines in District Hospitals and Sub District Hospital so as to manage the medical or surgical patients and make optimal use of the Golden hour. This type of ER is fully equipped with modern machinery & emergency drugs. This has also contributed towards bringing down the referral rate from the peripheral Health institutions to the tertiary care hospitals which are already over burdened.

Recently at district Hospital Reasi, a precious life was saved by performing timely thrombolysis on a 40 years male patient of STEMI with Sinus bradycardia. This is especially important because thrombolysis within two hours of STEMI is as good as angioplasty and there is no need of placing stents in these patients as the normal flow in coronaries is restored.

Similarly, lives have also been saved in Samba, Kathua, Udhampur, Jammu and Ramban districts by timely intervention. More steps are being made by the Health Department to further improve the critical emergency care services in the days to come.

ERs have received a further boost with the recent operationalization of Jammu Skill & Simulation Centre (JSSC) Nagrota, due to the efforts of DHS Jammu, by making available skilled human resource. JSSC is equipped with State-of-the-art, Hi-tech, Hi-fidelity computerised simulators and most advanced mannequins that closely mimic human actions like breathing, crying, blinking, bleeding and respond either automatically or manually to the physical and medical interventions. The centre is imparting Hands-on training to In-service health care workers of Jammu division on modern simulation methodology so as to enhance their skills and competencies in effectively dealing with emergencies in ER.

These new interventions are contributing in providing better critical health care services to the people of Jammu, thereby saving precious lives.
