Canadian Prime Minister Justin Treadu is not to be found at his official residence in Ottawa and he has vanished, gone into hiding in a secret place, along with his family. What was it that has forced him to take this extreme step? Well, it is basically to escape the wrath of truckers, yes, truck drivers who drover thousands of trucks to Ottawa to protest against his order on vaccine!
Hundreds of truckers and thousands of people blocked the streets in what has been termed as “Freedom Convoy’’. They are protesting against vaccination being made mandatory for crossing the US-Canadian border. It does not seem like the protestors were targeting Trudeau for vaccine mandate alone and other points of discontent against the government seem to have contributed.
“I want it all to stop — these measures are unjustified,” said one demonstrator, 31-year-old businessman Philippe Castonguay, outside the Parliament building. He had driven seven hours from northern Quebec province to make his feelings known: “The vaccination requirements are taking us toward a new society we never voted for,” he said.
The protest originated last week in western Canada, where dozens of truckers organized a convoy to drive from Vancouver to Ottawa to demonstrate against Covid-related restrictions, particularly a vaccination requirement for truck drivers.
