Pulwama, January 28: A SVEEP awareness programme was today organized by the District SVEEP team at Bagh Sangerwani, here.

District Election Officer Pulwama, Baseer Ul Haq Choudhary was the chief guest and SP Pulwama Ghulam Jeelani was the guest of honour on the occasion.

DEO said that the Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation program (SVEEP), is the flagship program of the Election Commission of India for voter education, spreading voter awareness and promoting voter literacy in India. We have been working towards preparing India’s electors and equipping them with basic knowledge related to the electoral process.

SVEEP’s primary goal is to build a truly participative democracy in India by encouraging all eligible citizens to vote and make an informed decision during the elections.

The DEO in his address while giving details regarding SVEEP urged the participants to disseminate the information to others. He enlightened the participants about the role of SVEEP in the district to sensitize the general masses about the voting process and the importance of voting.

He on the occasion stressed upon the importance of such awareness campaigns for the students and the general public. He also underlined the need to organize similar programs for students in the near future all tehsils of the district.

Meanwhile, a general awareness on the importance of voting in a democratic system was given by BLO, Mohammad Ashraf.

Earlier painting and essay competitions were also held. The DEO and SP distributed awards among the position holders.

Among others, Chief Education Officer Pulwama, Nodal Officer SVEEP, Tehsildar Rajpora, Young prospective voters/students of various educational institutions were the main participants, besides religious and political representatives, PRIs, BLOs and Supervisors attended the awareness programme.
