Recently released DGGI a tool to assess status of governance in J&K

Jammu, January 24: The Government of Jammu & Kashmir under the aegis of Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG) released District Good Governance Index (DGGI) on 22nd January at Convention Centre, Jammu.

This index was formally launched by Shri Amit Shah, Home Minister in presence of Dr. Jitendra Singh, MoS and Shri Manoj Sinha, Lt. Governor of J&K and other senior officers including Administrative Secretaries of various departments, HODs, Deputy Commissioners and the teams from DARPG GoI, CGG Hyderabad and CPOs/DSEOs from Planning, Department and Monitoring Department of J&K Government.

The District Good Governance Index is a tool to assess the status of governance and impact of various interventions taken by the Central and State Governments including UTs.

In the UT of J&K, for this index, 10 sectors, 58 indicators and 116 data sets were identified keeping in view the central and the UT Government priorities. The ranking of districts under the index will bring about healthy competition amongst districts which in turn will benefit the citizens and improve their living standards.

This initiative which is first of its kind exercise in UT of J&K will leverage the districts to make improvements in the particular area of governance.

The launch ceremony of District Good Governance Index was webcast all over India. During the event, the core team involved in development of District Good Governance Index like Shri V. Srinivas, Secretary, DARPG, Government of India, Shri Saurabh Bhagat, Director General, J&K IMPARD and Dr. Reva Sharma, Director Training, J&K IMPARD, Jammu were felicitated. The efforts of Manoj Kumar Dwivedi, Principal Secretary, General Administration Department, J&K; Dr. Shabbeer Shaikh, Director Centre for Good Governance, Hyderabad as technical partner for the development of District Good Governance Index and Smt. Satvir Kour, Director General Economics & Statistics Department J&K were also lauded and they were also felicitated for their contribution.

On the occasion, the five top ranking District Development Commissioners of Jammu, Doda, Samba, Pulwama and Srinagar districts were also felicitated with award of appreciation certificates by the Lt. Governor of Jammu & Kashmir.

The award of appreciation was also given to various districts for achievements made in 10 identified sectors like Agriculture, Commerce & Industries, Human Resource Development, Public Health, Public Infrastructure & Utilities, Financial Inclusion, Social Welfare & Development, Judicial & Public Safety, Environment and Citizen Centric Governance.
