Srinagar, December 08: Mission Director, Jammu and Kashmir Rural Livelihoods Mission (JKRLM), Dr Syed Sehrish Asgar, today inaugurated a three day workshop for the officials of the Mission regarding formulation of a framework for promoting sustainable agricultural practices in Jammu and Kashmir.
The workshop, being organized by JKRLM and a team of experts from Union Ministry of Rural Development, shall impart training to District Programme Managers, Block Programme Managers and livelihoods coordinators of the Mission.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Sehrish emphasized upon the field officials to develop a mechanism for encouraging sustainable agricultural practices among the farming community. She asked them to work in an integrated manner in order to promote women farmers into agri entrepreneurs’ besides encouraging value addition in their agri products.
Mission Director stressed upon the officials for adoption of sustainable agricultural practices including seed treatment, soil treatment, pre and post harvest cultivation practices in their respective blocks. She added that sustainable agriculture is an eco-friendly form of farming and is also economically viable through which we can preserve our land resources for generations to come.
Dr Sehrish said that the main objective of organizing this workshop was to address, focus, discuss and deliberate upon the agri-eco system which will be operated in blocks through a pool of livelihood CRPs who will provide last mile support to the women farmers in sustainable agricultural practices and livestock management.
MD further applauded the whole team of Mission and that of members of MoRD for chalking out modalities for this programme.
