Jammu, December 03: Secretary Social Welfare Department, Sheetal Nanda today reiterated the government’s commitment to support the persons with disabilities so that these people with special needs can feel inclusive in the society.
She stated this while addressing an event here to observe the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, organized by Hope Disability Center in Collaboration with JK State Rehabilitation Council, Department of Social Welfare, Department of Youth Services & Sports, Department of Information & Public Relations, Department of Culture and JK Sports Council.
Speaking on the occasion, the Secretary said that as a society there are certain responsibilities of people towards such persons who need support more than anything else.
She observed that the Department of Social Welfare is ready in its endeavour to work with organizations like HOPE Disability Center so that more could be done in this direction.
Ms Nanda also appreciated the center for its work done especially addressing needs of persons with disabilities and specially abled persons.
On the occasion, many sports persons were also felicitated including Gold Medalists Rakshanda Mehak, Nabeel Ahmad Dar, Vishal Khajuria, Rakesh Singh, Gulshan Kumar, Shehnaz Akhat among others.
On the occasion, an inclusive song was enacted by the troupe of Chinar Art Foundation, besides a skit on disability and COVID-19 illness was also performed by artists from Nav Durga Kala Manch. Also, a question answer session was conducted wherein prizes were also distributed among the participants.
Director Social Welfare Department Jammu, Ms Vivek Sharma; JK Sports Council Judo coach, Suraj Bhan Singh; Sports Officer Ashok Singh and other concerned were also present on the occasion.
Earlier, colorful drawing and painting event was also held on the occasion.
