Ganderbal, December 02: District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Ganderbal, today organized a programme on “Women Empowerment through Legal Awareness” in collaboration with National Commission of Women and Women Empowerment Committee CUK at Green Campus, Central University of Kashmir, Ganderbal.

In the event Vice Chancellor CUK Prof. Farooq Ahmad Shah, Registrar CUK Prof. Afzal Zargar, Prof. Parveen Akhtar Pandit, Secretary DLSA Ganderba Tabasum, Assistant Professor Gulafroz Jan, Advocate Sabeena Naveed and Member Secretary, WEC, CUK Dr. Himabindu, Staff of DLSA, Teachers from Education department, Faculty Members of CUK and PLVS of Ganderbal also participated in the said programme.

Prof. Farooq Ahmad Shah, Vice Chancellor CUK in his presidential address Stated about women empowerment and the role of DLSA’s in different sections of society. He further added that the main focus of DLSA is to provide services to Marginalized and weaker sections of society. He highlighted the issues related to women and provided information about women’s rights.

While speaking on the occasion, Secretary District Legal Services Authority Ganderbal Tabasum highlighted the role of District Legal Services Authority in General and purpose of coordinating with various institutions and the universities for conducting of various programs more particularly awareness regarding “Women Empowerment” so that the message reaches to every corner in the society. She further deliberated about the beneficiaries who are entitled to Free Legal Aid in terms of Section 12 of the Legal Services Authorities Act 1987.

She said Women Empowerment implies the ability of women to make decisions with regard to their life and work and giving equal rights to them in all spheres like personal, social, economic, political, legal and so on.

Registrar, CUK Prof. Afzal Zargar in his address stated that we should understand women play an important role in every sphere whether It is professional or personal. They become the pillars of our society. He highlighted the “Rights of Women.

Prof. Parveen  Akhter Pandit, Joined virtually and highlighted the issues related to women and equality between genders. She further stated that we should empower women in every field, especially economically. She said we should avoid discrimination regarding gender.

Assistant Professor Ms. Gulafroz Jan, highlighted “Constitutional Provisions regarding women empowerment. She stated that women empowerment should begin at home. There should be no discrimination by the parents towards their children. The male & female child should be treated equally then only it is possible to achieve the proper results.

Advocate Sabeena Naveed provided information about “Domestic Violence”   against Women. She provided information about the safeguards provided to the destitute ladies.
