Rajouri, November 22 :- With an objective of addressing fear and empowering the girls, morally, mentally, and physically to defend themselves in any set of circumstances, the Indian Army held one-day training/demonstration on ‘self defence’ in a far-flung area in Rajouri district.

Rashtriya Rifle (RR) unit based at Samote in Kottrnaka sub-district in Rajouri district of J&K has organised the training/demonstration on ‘self defence’ for the girls on Monday at Budhal.

“Karate Association of India Qualified Martial Arts Coach Yasmeen Kouser was invited by the RR unit of the Indian Army to train the girls of this far-flung region,” said the senior officer of the unit.

The Karate Coach trained almost 40 girls by Training and teaching them several karate tips so that under any unfavourable circumstances girls can defend themselves in an effective way, he added.

The need of the hour is to educate the girls, women about the different types of violence against them, to provide knowledge about the different tips of self-protection to keep in mind in different situations & to showcase and give a demonstration on different self defence techniques.

The Officer said that the girls were taught simple ways of self defence and they were also spoken to about tackling situations in which they found themselves to be under any kind of harassment.

“The safety of the girl child should be given maximum priority and hence the workshop was seen as a boon to the girls who often have to travel away from their homes for studies and work,” said the Army.

Manzoor Naik, a prominent social worker in the area appreciated the efforts of the Indian Army in this far-flung region, especially in empowering women and providing great opportunities for them. Netizens appreciated the Indian Army for organising such training programs in such far-flung and remote areas.

Apart from Army officials, other dignitaries present during the training workshop were Block Development Officer Budhal New, Shaharyar Dar; prominent social and political activists of the area Manzoor Ahmed Naik and  Sangeeta Thakur.
