Rajouri, November 19: District administration Rajouri, in collaboration with Cooperative Department Friday organised a mega function to mark 68th All India Cooperative Week celebration that commenced from 14th November.

Deputy Commissioner, Rajesh K Shavan was the Chief Guest on the occasion, while Deputy Registrar Cooperatives, Antar Singh; General Secretary J&K Cooperative Union Jammu, Bhakshi Ganesh Das; President House Building Cooperative Societies Ltd Rajouri, Dr Garu Ram; MGNF Fellow, Josh Varghish and Prominent citizens including Subash Chander ( retired KAS); Iftikhar Dar and members of the cooperative societies attended the event.

The programme began with singing of the National Anthem   by the girl students.

In his address, the DDC said that the District Administration is making concerted efforts to strengthen the cooperative societies in the district and all possible measures are being taken in this regard.

He also highlighted the role of Cooperative in the Socio-economic upliftment of rural areas and emphasized the need for the formation of new Cooperatives by involving more and more unemployed educated youth.

“Cooperative societies can play an important role in self-employment generation activities and boosting the economy of the district”, the DC said.

He added that most of the cooperative societies in the district have become non-functional and there is a dire need to revive all of them  to meet the demands of the society.

“This is the high time to engage the unemployed youth and women in Cooperative Societies so that they can earn on their own and live a dignified life in the society”, he further said.

He underlined the need to make the best possible use of the available resources for the socio-economic development of the region.

The DC said that Rajouri has a huge potential in the dairy sector and asked the cooperative societies to make dedicated efforts to promote dairy and dairy products in the district.

He said that the District Administration is also making efforts to facilitate the establishment of new women and youth cooperatives and provide them with a solid support system to flourish.

DC also focused on the need to highlight successful initiatives in the cooperative sector among the masses to attract new talent into this sphere.

He also urged the members to work religiously to make the cooperative movement a grand success and stressed upon the officers of the Cooperative Department and its members to work with dedication for achieving desired goals.

He asked each member to constitute 100 Cooperative Societies and these societies should be related to the agriculture, horticulture, handlooms, handicrafts sector and other sectors.

DC also said that such meetings would be held regularly in near future to strengthen the cooperative societies of the district and assure of all possible support from the District Administration for their proper functioning.

He also felicitated the girls with gifts for students who sang the National Anthem during the event.
