Srinagar, November 18: The Director General (DG) Horticulture Kashmir, Aijaz Ahmad Bhat today attended a training/awareness camp during his visit to Kellar, Shopian.
The camp was organized by the Horticulture department Shopian for tribal population. Besides the Horticulture department, other line departments viz. Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, National Rural Livelihood Mission, KVIB Shopian, KVK Shopian, Tribal Affairs Department, Cooperative Department and entrepreneur Shaheen Agro Fresh took part in the camp.
The main focus of the training/awareness camp was to educate the tribal and far-flung population about the different Government Schemes in vogue and the camp was attended by a large number of progressive orchardists, particularly those belonging to Tribal population.
During the camp, the representative of all the departments highlighted schemes of their respective departments and apprised the participants about the different initiatives taken by the UT Government for the employment generation and betterment of Tribal Community.
While addressing the farmers, the DG explained the developmental schemes implemented by the Horticulture Department. He also described the incentives being provided to the orchardists under these schemes meant for socio-economic upliftment of these farmers.
He further said that on the directions of LG’s administration, the Department has started a mass campaign to reach out to the border and tribal areas for which he assured more and more such programmes will be held. He urged the participants to come forward, associate with the Horticulture Department and avail the benefits of different Central and UT sponsored schemes.
Later, plantation drive was kick started by the DG at Departmental Nursery Keller Shopian. Various fruit plants including hazelnuts were planted.
