Shopian, November 08: The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shopian, Sachin Kumar Vaishya today chaired a Child Protection meet at Mini Secretariat Arhama, here.

During the meeting, a brief discussion on various child protection issues was held and the action plan with the stakeholder departments regarding treatment, isolation, nutrition and other facilities of the children for building community care and protection mechanism for children in need of care and protection was also deliberated upon.

At the outset, the Chairperson, Human Welfare Voluntary organisation and In-Charge District Social Welfare Officer apprised the chair about the working and achievements of the organisation and said that their organisation has a free, emergency phone outreach service for children in need of care and protection.

After detailed deliberations, the DC directed for ensuring provisions of facilities in all respects to the children under the protection of UNICEF with regard to the treatment, nutrition and other facilities. He asked the members of District Child Protection Unit, District Child Protection Committee and others to identify and report the issues in their concerned area to develop a safe and protective environment for the children.

Vaishya also asked the Social Welfare Department to provide benefits of government sponsored children centric schemes and other facilities to the children for their bright future.

The DC stressed upon all the concerned departments and other stakeholders to work in synergy to ensure best possible facilities to the children and problems of others needs to be assessed and solved with effective intervention.

He said that child protection, their education, health and nutrition shall be given foremost importance to save them from exploitation and their better future. He stressed upon the need to initiate an awareness campaign about the child helpline numbers and child protection issues.

The DC directed the Tehsildars to visit their respective areas thrice a week to see and monitor the exercise regularly for the care and protection of such children, submitting of the report, besides ensuring that children are not suffering in harsh winter and to make sure the facilities including nutrition and other facilities of the children for building community care and protection is made available.

Chairperson, Human Welfare Voluntary Organization, (HWVO); Chief Education Officer, Shopian; ACP, Shopian; Tehsildar; Members of Child Welfare Community (CWC), Members of Integrated Child Protection Services (ICPS) and other concerned were present on the occasion.
