New Delhi, Oct 20: The Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor RK Mathur called upon the Hon’ble Minister of Textiles, Consumer Affairs & Food & Public Distribution and Textiles Piyush Goyal in New Delhi today.
The meeting held deliberations upon expediting special packages for industries etc, up-gradation of the existing Pashmina testing labs and development of units for Apricot and Sea Buckthorn processing.
Discussions were also held on freight policy, PLI scheme and investments in handloom, handicrafts and food processing.
In a meeting with MoS Skill Development & Entrepreneurship & Electronics & IT, Rajeev Chandrashekhar, LG Mathur discussed the ways and means of facilitating the first generation entrepreneurs of Ladakh and the need for new approaches for development of traditional skill sets. Promotion of Halman Apricots of Kargil, development of world class homestays etc, were discussed at length.
LG Mathur also discussed the administration’s vision to develop Ladakh’s Pashmina as a Khadi product and the aim to add value by means of organic dyeing, new designs and products with use of latest technologies. Further, the Hon’ble LG also impressed upon providing training to the youth in management and professional marketing of the product.
Discussing the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MEITY), LG Mathur informed the Hon’ble Minister of telecom coverage required in 40 percent area of Ladakh and the need for optical fibre in place of VSATs.
Connectivity for Gram Panchayats, increasing bandwidth of VSAT, development of virtual Tech Parks in remote areas etc were also discussed during the meeting.
Later during the day, LG Mathur met Dr. VK Saraswat, member NITI Aayog and discussed the overall development approach of Ladakh, particularly renewable energy and primary sector products.
