Jammu, October 15: Central University of Jammu will soon have Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) sponsored research centre on its campus. The Research And Development Center is being named after former President and ace scientist Dr Abdul Kalam. It will be named as Kalam Centre of Science and Technology (KCST). The state of the art facility will be fully funded by DRDO.
DRDO Chairman Dr G Satheesh Reddy led the foundation stone of the KCST on Thursday. The centre will be spread over five acres and act as a nodal hub for coordinating with other other higher academic institutions like IIT, IIM and other universities.
For future expansions, if needed, another patch of land spread over five acres has been earmarked. The KCST building is designed by Mumbai based architects HKD Consulting Engineers, who have also provided comprehensive architectural services for ISRO Research Center, also within CUJ premises. The ISRO centre is likely to be inaugurated in the near future.
Kranti Bhushan Kesar, Principal Consultant, HKD, informed that the DRDO facility will have multiple laboratories along with a modern Data Center and a Clean Room, along with other infrastructure required for a modern R&D Center. During his interaction with mediapersons, Dr Reddy said a lot of projects will be awarded by the KCST to other academic institutions, keeping in view the core competence of these institutions.
Dr Reddy said that he and his team are focussed on collaborating with other academic institutions operating in the area. Some industry leaders are also being involved in their projects and it is to ensure lab-industry interactions. He added that anti-drone technology has been developed by DRDO and transferred it to industries.
In turn, the industries can approach security forces of all types and get orders for large scale manufacturing.
Vice Chancellor Ashok Aima was also present on the occasion, along with several senior members of the faculty.
