Mumbai: BMW Motorrad has launched its C 400GT maxi-scooter India. It has been priced at Rs. 9.95 lakhs ex-showroom, making it the most expensive scooter on sale in India. BMW Motorrad has already received 100 pre-bookings of the BMW C 400GT.
The maxi-scooter comes with a 350 cc, single-cylinder engine that is water-cooled. It is able to produce 34 hp of max power at 7,500 rpm and a peak torque output of 35 Nm at 5,750 rpm. It is mated to a Stepless CVT automatic transmission with a Centrifugal Clutch. The engine uses ride-by-wire technology. BMW C 400GT can hit a top speed of 139 kmph.
So, it can be used for urban city runs as well as highway touring. However, with an unladen weight of 214 kgs, the scooter is on the heavier side but then it does have a very friendly and accessible seat height of 775 mm. BMW is offering the C 400GT in two paint schemes. There is Style Triple Black and Alpine White.
The BMW C 400GT looks entirely different from anything else that we have seen on our Indian roads. It is much larger than the so-called maxi-scooters offered in India. As of now, we get Aprilia SXR 160, Yamaha Aerox 155 and Suzuki Burgman Street in India, which are designed to look like maxi-scooters whereas the C 400GT is a proper maxi-scooter and is much larger than other scooters.
It gets a very unique styling with an angular and aggressive front. There is also a tall windscreen on the front to protect the rider from the windblast. The turn indicators are placed vertically near the mudguard. There is a step-up seat and an upswept exhaust. The scooter does look quite sporty.
Suspension duties are done by telescopic front forks and dual spring-loaded shock absorbers with adjustable pre-load. Braking duties are done by dual discs in the front and a single disc at the rear. There are four-piston calipers in the front and a single-piston caliper at the rear. BMW is also offering Anti-lock braking stability and Automatic Stability Control.
BMW uses aluminium cast alloy wheels to keep the weight light. The front is a 15-inch wheel that uses 120/70 tyres whereas the rear one is a 14-inch wheel that uses a wider 150/70 tyre. The usable fuel tank capacity is 12.8 litres whereas the reserve capacity is around 3 litres.
There is quite a bit of equipment on the BMW C 400GT too. It comes with an LED Daytime Running Lamp and an LED headlamp, keyless ignition, LED tail lamp, centre stand and a variable storage compartment. You also get a flat LCD screen with an onboard computer. The TFT screen can pair with a device and it comes with navigation. There is a switchgear to control the screen. Moreover, BMW is offering LED turn indicators, an electronic immobilizer and a 12V charging socket to recharge your mobile devices.
