Goodwill Gesture:  Army undertakes various initiatives to strengthen bond with local populace

Jammu 11 Oct  : Under the outreach programme to strengthen bond with the local populace- the awaam, the Indian Army organized series of events to aware people about empowerment and to explore latent skills of children.

PRO Defence jammu lt Col Devender Anand informed that a series of events were organized across the Jammu region for the welfare and cause of the people.

To mark International Day of Girl Child which falls on October 11 every year, Indian Army undertook a noble initiative towards women and girl child empowerment.

“As part of this initiative, an awareness campaign was organised on Government schemes like Sukanya Samridhi for girl child, he said, adding, “a quiz competition was also conducted in villages Chowki and Kamila Kot of Naushera (J&K) for girl students followed by distribution of essential stationery to promote education.”

“Women of village who were on family way were educated by Medical Officer regarding the precautions to be taken to nurture a healthy child.”

Yet in another similar function, in continuing with the spirit to aware people, an awareness drive for villagers on the topic “First Aid and Disaster Management” conducted in District Doda with an aim to impart basic knowledge on providing first aid and Disaster Management cases of fractures and control of bleeding in case of minor accident, Casualty Evacuation and emergency rescue drill.

Col Anand said, “People were taught about First Aid measures to be adopted in such circumstances and thereby save life or limb.”

“This initiative by Indian Army was highly appreciated by the locals and they expressed their gratitude for the knowledge imparted to them and such events definitely have a lasting impact on villagers of remote and inaccessible areas who are devoid of basic medical facilities.:

Indian Army also conducted a “Motivational Talk to Join Armed Forces” at Govt Girls Higher Secondary School, Nowshera in District Rajouri (J&K) for the girls aspiring to join Indian Armed Forces.

“The gather was informed about the required education qualifications for each entry, Col Anand said, adding, “aspects for Officer entry and other ranks were discussed.”

“Special schemes Permanent and Short Service and Women Entry Commissions were deliberated.” The participants were informed about the women’s entry scheme earlier limited to joining the medical, dential, nursing but now other branches are also opened.

“The aspects of young entries to Sainik and  Military school was informative  and appealing to young minds, Col Anand added.

He added that participants were imparted awareness about the physical and educational requirements and the selection process for various types of entries into the services.

Similarly Indian Army also organised pre-recruitment training for the youth of Lam Tehsil Qila Dharal, Rajouri (J&K) for the upcoming Indian Army recruitment rallies.

“The training was conducted for a duration of seven weeks from Aug 30 to October 08.”

The training catered for all the requirements for getting enrolled into Indian Army which is the most sought after profession amongst the present generation.

“This initiative taken by the Indian Army generated more employment opportunities, lead to positive interaction, social development and fostered youth of border areas, Col Anand added.

He said, “The response to the initiative was overwhelming and the trainees are hopeful, with training imparted to them, they will succeed in the upcoming Indian Army recruitment. “

Yet in another function Indian Army organised a ‘Drawing and Painting Competition’ for the students of Govt Lower High School, Kalal in District Rajouri (J&K).

Army spokesperson said, “The competition for young talent had an academic aim to enhance personality development, induce healthy competitive spirit and sense of creativity among school going children of border area.”

“Students from various school participated in the competition.”

He said that free and conducive patriotic ambiance was created at the competition site. Participating students were provided with required stationary and accessories for the competition.

“Students took active interest in the competition and were full of enthusiasm to showcase their talent. In the end Suitable prizes were giver to children to boost up their morale and refreshments provided was delicious and was enjoyed by all participants,: Col Anand added .

Army also organised a Painting Competition at Shalimar in district Kishtwar in which a large number of students from class 2nd to 8th participated in the event.  The judges had a tough time judging the best painting amongst the numerous contenders.
