Leh, Aug 19: UT Administration of Ladakh has requested the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, to expedite the process of creation of posts of Registrar, Controller of Examination and Finance Officer of Central Institute of Buddhist Studies (CIBS), Leh.
In this regard, Secretary, Higher Education, Ladakh, Padma Angmo, today met Raghvendra Singh, Secretary, Minister of Culture, Government of India, at New Delhi and requested him to create and fill up posts of Registrar, Controller of Examination and Finance Officer at CIBS Leh.
Secretary Culture assured that the issues of CIBS would be taken on a priority basis. Secretary Padma Angmo thanked the Secretary of the Ministry of Culture on behalf of the UT Administration of Ladakh for the recent appointment of the Vice-Chancellor, which was a long pending demand of the students of CIBS Leh.
She also suggested convening a meeting of the Board of Management of the CIBS, which last met in January 2020. The Director/Vice-Chancellor of CIBS Leh is the Chairman of the Board of Management. Members of the Board include the Joint Secretary and Director, Ministry of Culture, President, Ladakh Buddhist Association (LBA) and President, All Ladakh Gonpa Society (ALGS), Leh besides Academicians and some faculty of CIBS Leh.
As per the UGC [Institutions Deemed to Be Universities] Regulations 2019, the Board of Management shall be the final decision-making body of the Institute in respect of every matter of the Institution, including in the academic, administrative, personnel, financial and developmental matters. The Board of Management shall meet at least four times a year.
Amita Sarbhai, Joint Secretary, the Ministry of Culture, was also present in the meeting. The Joint Secretary stated that the newly-appointed Vice-Chancellor would soon be visiting CIBS Leh to meet the students and the faculty of CIBS Leh to resolve all pending issues.
Central Institute of Buddhist Studies was founded in 1959 and given the status of a Deemed to be University in 2016 for five years. The Deemed University status shall continue beyond 2021 vide a government order.
