GMC Kathua self sufficient in O2 needs: Principal

KATHUA, MAY 20: The establishment of 2250 LPM  Oxygen Generation Plant  has helped the  Government Medical College, Kathua to become self sufficient in Medical Oxygen needs.

As per the concerned officials, prior to this, the medical oxygen dependency of the healthcare units in the district, including Government Medical College, Kathua was on  private suppliers functioning in Industrial Estate, Kathua.

Following the fresh surge in Covid-19 cases, the District Administration started the installation work of 2250 LPM capacity OGP on war footing and also took administrative control of production and distribution of private installation M/S Kay Kay Gases to streamline the availability of Oxygen Cylinders to Covid Hospitals in line with the instructions of the Government, they said.

Responding to the sudden rise of Covid-19 cases, the district Administration constituted a team headed by Nodal Officer Sandeep Dubey ( Functional Manager, District Industries Centre, Kathua) to station at  Kay Kay Gases 24×7 to oversee the arrangements for distribution of Oxygen Cylinder to Covid Care Hospitals as per priority in coordinated manner.

As per the Data provided by Nodal Officer, Kay Kay Gases supplied 1025 cylinders to GMC Jammu, 2330 cylinders to GMC Kathua, 3193 cylinders to K K Gupta Hospitals, 350 to ASCOMS, 75 cylinders to District Hospital Samba, 30 Cylinders to Military Hospital Satwari, 102 Cylinders to CHCs/ SDHs of Kathua district besides 52 cylinders to  2 Control Rooms in Jammu from 30th April to till date.

Principal GMC Kathua, Dr Anjali Nadir Bhat informed that with the functioning of 2250 LPM unit at GMC Kathua, the institution has become self sufficient in meeting the oxygen supply need. The hospital has also stocked 346 D-Type and 120 B-type Oxygen Cylinders   as Buffer to meet any exigency.

She said 50 Oxygen Concentators were also received by GMC Kathua which are being utilised for patient care in  Covid  Isolation wards.

As per the data shared by Health Department, the CHC Parole , CHC Billawar, CHC Bani, CHC Basohli, CHC Hiranagar and AK Gupta Hospitals are equipped with  237 B- type and 350 D-Type Oxygen Cylinders  besides sufficient provision has been  made for Oxygenated beds at Covid Care Centres in CHC Kharote, Polytechnic College Badala, Engineering College Janglote, GDC Billawar and Community Hall, Hiranagar.

Pertinently, as informed by Deputy Commissioner   Rahul Yadav in a presser the other day, an additional 750 LPM capacity Oxygen Generation Plant besides a 1000 LPM capacity Oxygen Generation Plant has been sanctioned for GMC Kathua , which will scale up the  capacity to 4000 LPM and also help in  increasing the number of  Oxygen Supported Beds.
