LG Mathur chairs a meeting to discuss PRASAD Scheme

Leh, Feb 25: The Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, R K Mathur chaired a meeting to discuss Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spirituality Augmentation Drive (PRASAD) scheme to be implemented in Leh at Raj Niwas today.

Rigzin Samphel, Commissioner/ Secretary Tourism and the consulting team from Delhi attended the meeting.

PRASAD is a scheme launched under the Ministry of Tourism, GOI with the aim to integrate the development of pilgrimage destinations in a prioritized, planned and sustainable manner in order to provide a complete religious tourism experience. Leh town has been declared a heritage town including Chokhang Vihara under this scheme by the Ministry of Tourism for beautification and development as a pilgrimage tourism destination. The team of a consultant from the Ministry apprised the Lt. Governor about the prospective DPR of the scheme and its implementing plans in Leh based on their preliminary survey.

LG Mathur emphasized taking on board all the stakeholders having a common vision for sustainable development of Ladakh while conceptualizing the scheme. He exhorted to ensure an integrated plan in tandem with the existing schemes of urban development for Leh considering the concept of smart city, traffic plan, road, toilets and heritage walk, etc. He stressed on the need for timely implementation of the scheme and urged the consulting team to strictly adhere to the deadline in submitting their preliminary report.
