Leh, Feb 20: Chairman, District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Leh, Shrikant Balasaheb Suse today convened a meeting with concerned district officials to discuss the current Covid surveillance mechanism in the light of the upcoming tourist and working season.

CMO Leh Dr Motup apprised Chairman, DDMA about the current screening and sampling mechanism at Leh Airport. Chairman, DDMA directed the Health Department to increase the number of the sampling team at the airport in light of the increase in the number of travellers. Assistant Labour Commissioner, Leh, Ghulam Nabi Tak shared the challenges faced by the Labour Department in registering the labourers at the airport and keeping a tab on the movement of labourers working in different villages of Ladakh.

Chairman, DDMA directed to strengthen surveillance mechanism through registration, checkpoints and formation of village-level surveillance committees.

The meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC), Leh; Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Leh; Medical Superintendent, SNM Hospital, Leh; District Surveillance Officer, Leh; Assistant Labour Commissioner, Leh; State Surveillance Officer, IDSP, Leh, and representatives from different labour agencies from Leh district.

Earlier in the day, DC also visited SNM hospital, Mahabodhi Karuna Charitable Hospital and Ladakh Heart Foundation to review in the light of recent spikes of cases in other states and the preparedness of the health department to handle such situations.
