Leh, Jan 28: Kharu beat Domkhar 3-2 to win the final UT-level match of the Khelo India Ladakh Winter Games Women Ice Hockey Championship at the Ice Hockey Rink, NDS Sports Complex today. The final match was inaugurated by Advisor to LG UT Ladakh, Umang Narula. The event was organised by the Department of Youth Services and Sports, UT Ladakh, in collaboration with Ladakh Winter Sports Club, Leh.

Secretary, Youth Services and Sports (YSS), Ravinder Kumar; Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Leh, Rajiv Pandey; Chief Conservator of Forest (CCF), Ladakh, Preet Pal Singh were among the officials present during the final match.

Advisor Umang Narula applauded the team for their sporting spirit and for exhibiting their skills and techniques in the final match. He assured that the UT administration would provide support for the promotion and development of ice hockey, and upgradation of infrastructure in other sports disciplines. He expressed hope to see ice hockey players from Ladakh excelling at international level in the future and watch international teams taking part in competitions at the ice hockey rinks in Ladakh.

Speaking on the occasion, Secretary Sports Ravinder shared that various activities are in progress in the Khelo India Ladakh Winter Games and apprised the guests about the upcoming L-G Cup and CEC Cup ice hockey tournaments. He also shared UT Government’s initiatives to construct ice hockey rinks in all blocks of UT Ladakh, and the purchase of equipment, to provide a boost to the sport in both districts of Ladakh. He further informed that the archery tournament under Khelo India was aimed at promoting local sports.
