Kupwara: The joint efforts of firefight teams Saturday late evening averted a major tragedy and saved the congested market from a massive blaze.
An official here said that “The fire initially broke out in Cooperative Bank Unit at 2330 hours and spread to 6 adjoining shops immediately.”
He said that the Fire Department vehicles and Army teams reacted immediately and tried to control the spread.
Due to the coordinated efforts between district administration, JKP, Deputy Mayor, and Army, additional vehicles available with Army and firefighting teams were rushed to the site, the official said.
He said that the coordination and dedicated efforts finally could douse the fire completely by 0220 hours.
Though 6 shops have been completely gutted in fire, the joint efforts of all stakeholders averted a major tragedy in the densely packed Kupwara Town Market, the official added.
