Leh, January 16: With the launch of the world’s biggest inoculation drive against novel coronavirus infection in India by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the first phase of Covid-19 vaccination in UT Ladakh was inaugurated by the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, R K Mathur at Heart Foundation Hospital in Leh today. A safai karamchari of SNM Hospital, Leh took the first jab in the presence of the Lt. Governor.

 

CEC, LAHDC, Leh Tashi Gyaltson; MP Ladakh Jamyang Tsering Namgial; Advisor Umang Narula; Commissioner/ Secretary Health Rigzin Samphel; DC, Leh Sachin Kumar; Director Health Tsering Angchuk; CMO Health, other senior officers, doctors and staff of the Health Department were present on the occasion. CEC, LAHDC Kargil, Feroz Ahmed Khan attended the function through video conferencing.

 

Addressing the gathering, the Lt. Governor appreciated the medical staff, ASHA, Anganwadi and Safai workers of UT Ladakh for their selfless efforts and dedication in handling the pandemic of Covid-19. He hoped for the successful conduct of the vaccination drive-in Ladakh by the medical team and that this leads to the betterment of the economy. As a priority group, the medical staff at high risk will get vaccinated in the first phase and about 100 are proposed to be given the vaccine today.

 

Sharing the advice given by PM Modi, LG Mathur said, “As emphasized by Hon’ble PM, even after getting vaccinated, one must adhere to all the safety precautions of Covid-19 and maintain complete discipline to ensure a Covid free society.” He appealed the people not to fear the side effects of these vaccines or believe in the rumours spread about the coronavirus vaccination. He urged them to trust the assurances given by expert scientists, doctors and regulatory authorities on its safety.
