Kupwara: Tata Sumo belonging to Mr Abdul Ahmad Dar, member of Kupwara Sumo Union, had skidded off the snow clad road, 20 feet into a nala in Marhama village of Kupwara on 07 Jan 21 afternoon. The driver had jumped off the vehicle and had not sustained any injuries.
On receiving distress call from Mr Shoukat Ahmad Mir, President, Kupwara Sumo Union, Army recovery team was sent to the spot on 08 Jan. The team with recovery vehicle reached the site negotiating narrow, snow bound and slippery road* and started recovery efforts. Due to *lack of space for recovery vehicle, trees were used innovatively as anchors to pull the vehicle. The pulling up efforts went on till 5 PM as the trees and ropes were giving up and snow made the situation more difficult. But thanks to the determination of Army Team as there was ‘no giving up’ by them. 100s of villagers who had gathered at the site *cheered the Team as slowly the vehicle reached the top. The spirit of Jawan and Awam was on full display through the efforts of Army Team. The villagers brought tea and water for the troops who had *toiled throughout the day.
The recovery sent out a strong message of dedication of the Army in helping the Awam in every situation in difficult winter months and will be resonated in same frequency with all the members of Kupwara Sumo Union
