Srinagar: Humanitarian Excellence Awards 2020 were given away to fifty one Indians from different fields of social service through virtual mode. These awards were given away to 20 females, 20 males and 11 organizations throughout India. Well known writer-activist-politician of J&K Dr Darakhshan Andrabi was awarded in the field of social service for her humanist and inclusive approach of reaching out to the people in need in the troubled area of Jammu & Kashmir. The Awards were given away by the Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) Shri Pradeep Tamta. The citation of the ‘I Can Foundation’, the award hosting organization reads:”Dr Darakhshan Andrabi is being awarded for her continuous public service and social outreach initiatives for different marginalized sections of society and people in distressed conditions in the violence-hit J&K without any discretion of cast, creed, religion, region and area. Her humanist approach has earlier been acknowledged by many organizations and Institutions at national level. Dr Andrabi has struggled hard to establish herself in the public arena with her uncompromising ideals and mission of social service and has now become an inspiration for many contemporaries.” The Chairperson of the Foundation Gaurav Gautam, while presenting her the award, said that Dr Darakhshan Andrabi’s public service story is a tale of heroism and compassion, a saga of dedication and a tale of healing-touch for those in need. The second edition of the awards ceremony was to be held at Hotel Le Meridien New Delhi but was changed to a virtual presentation ceremony due to Covid upsurge in National Capital.
