Kupwara, Nov 19 (Press Release): World Toilet Day, an awareness event was conducted by Army for AWAM of Manigah & Halmatpora areas in Kupwara District. The event was aimed at spreading awareness about toilet hygeine and encourage & inspire people to take a pledge to ensure ‘open defecation free’ environment in their areas. A str of 150 men and women attended the event. The event was sponsored by Goonj Foundation, a NGO.
Dr Ashraf from Govt Hospital, interacted with AWAM during the event and briefed them about the importance and benefits of toilet hygeine. He stressed upon it’s positive impacts on public health, human dignity, and personal safety, especially for women. The AWAM was also made aware of financial assistance provided by government to each household for construction of toilets and people were encouraged to use this initiative and construct clean and well ventilated toilets.
The event was followed by ration distribution by Goonj Foundation to AWAM in recognition of community work which they undertook in their respective wards.
Humadard-E-Kupwara Bn/ Hajipir Bde/ Vajr Div after the event thanked AWAM for their interactive participation who in turn appreciated the Army for such initiatives.
