New Delhi: Union home minister Amit Shah on Tuesday slammed the Gupkar Alliance, a coalition of J&K political parties, calling it an “unholy gathbandhan” against the national interest.
Shah accused the political parties of seeking intervention of foreign forces in J&K and disrespecting the Indian tri-colour.
In a series of tweets, the home minister said that Jammu and Kashmir will always remain an integral part of India and warned the People’s Alliance for Gupkar Declaration of “going against the national interest”.
“Indian people will no longer tolerate an unholy ‘global gathbandhan’ against our national interest. Either the Gupkar Gang swims along with the national mood or else the people will sink it,” he tweeted.
In August this year, on the first anniversary of the abrogation of Article 370, mainstream regional political parties of Jammu and Kashmir came together to “safeguard and to restore special status along with Article 35A of the erstwhile state Jammu and Kashmir”.
Shah also targeted the Congress party for forging an alliance with the Gupkar Alliance, accusing it of siding with entities that want to take J&K back to the era of terror and turmoil.
“Congress and the Gupkar Gang want to take J&K back to the era of terror and turmoil. They want to take away the rights of Dalits, women and tribals that we have ensured by removing Article 370. This is why they’re being rejected by the people everywhere,” he tweeted.
On Monday, Union minister Jitendra Singh asked the Congress and the National Conference (NC) to explain to the people of the Jammu region whether they endorsed the Gupkar resolution to restore Article 370 of the Constitution in Jammu and Kashmir.
He said the People’s Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) will spell the doom for the Congress not only in Jammu and Kashmir, but across the country. (With inputs from agencies)
