Kupwara, Oct 26 : Members of Journalist Fraternity Kupwara on Monday held an hours-long meeting to discuss some important organizational matters and issues faced by working journalists. The Association was later dissolved and it was decided that new body will be formed after fresh elections.
According to a statement, the meeting was headed by Fayaz Hamid, the former President of the fraternity and attended by around 50 members working for newspapers, credible news agencies, TV channels, news portals and multimedia houses.
Hamid resigned from the President post paving way for fresh elections. Amin Masoodi, Editor, Curtain Raiser and Abrar Bhat, Managing Editor, also resigned as Vice President and General Secretary Positions respectively.
The meeting unanimously decided to elect Kamran Ashraf, Joint Editor, Inside Kashmir daily, as interim President to head a five member executive body to conduct fresh elections in near future.
The meeting unanimously decided to re-name the ‘Journalist Fraternity Kupwara’ as ‘Journalists & Writers’ Association Kupwara.
Besides others, Rasik Rasool, Editor, Royal Kashmir, Irfan Malik, Reporter Kashmir Crown and Peerzada Rashid Sub-Editor, Quami Times, Tasaduq Hussain, Correspondent, KNO, & Ashraf Charag, Correspondent, Kashmir Uzma, took part in the meeting.
During the meeting it was decided that the interim body will take call about the election and announce about the filing of nomination papers that will be held in coming days under a very constitutional and democratic manner.
