Leh, September 27: The Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, R K Mathur today flagged off the cleanliness drive on the occasion of World Tourism Day from Karzoo Zing, Leh.

Commissioner/ Secretary Tourism Rigzin Samphel, Director Tourism Kunzes Angmo, officers/officials of Tourism Department, Rural Development Department, Municipal Committee and members of various organisations including ALTOA, ALGHA, LMGA, participating Mohallas and other volunteers were present on the occasion.

Speaking to the media, the Lt. Governor said that in this critical time with the threat of Covid-19 pandemic, tourism is the most adversely hit sector across the globe. However, he assured that whatever is possible to promote tourism keeping in view the guidelines of Covid-19 pandemic shall be done. He appreciated the Ladakh Tourism Department, Rural Development Department, MC, Leh and Kargil and other bodies for their initiative to celebrate the World Tourism Day with a cleanliness drive.

The Lt. Governor asserted the close dependence of tourism and cleanliness. He said that as the saying goes “the journey of civilization is a journey of cleanliness”. Ladakh needs to continue with the cleanliness drive on a regular basis and create a clean atmosphere for tourists as well for the local citizens. He exhorted to carry such cleanliness drives beyond the urban locality and to motivate the rural population also to ensure cleanliness and hygiene at all levels.

The Lt. Governor also handed over various items for the cleanliness drive to the representatives of different participating Mohallas.
