JAMMU, July 1: Expressing deep concern over the increasing corruption in Jammu and Kashmir, BDC Chairpersons, who met here today, said that the corruption has crossed all limits in this period.

Nearly thirty BDC chairpersons from various districts were met here on Wednesday accused the Governor’s administration of complete failure in curbing corruption.

In his presidential address, Shafiq Mir, Chairman All J and K Panchayat Conference demanded investigation into the COVID related expenses done by Deputy Commissioners in their respective districts. He added that large numbers of fake Bill’s worth crores of rupees have been drawn during lockdown by the officials. He asked the government to hold a probe over the utilization of funds by the Deputy Commissioners worth crores of rupees sanctioned by the government amid COVID-19 pandemic.

Mir said that more than one year has passed of PRI elections conducted in J&K UT but till date not a single penny has been allotted to BDC Chairpersons for development purposes. He said that there is a complete political deadlock and vaccum in both Kashmir and Jammu regions of the Union Territory of J&K as the people have lost faith in political parties and leaders who for the last more than 70 years not only lied with people of both the regions but also exploited them on the name of region and religion.

Mir appealed to the Lt Governor to announce Rs 50 lakh as Constituency Development Fund for each BDC Chairperson in Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory so that development will take place at grass root level.

Arun Sharma, Provincial President AJKPC also resented the callous attitude of the J&K government for deliberately neglecting the BDC Chairpersons. He asked the government why the BDC Chairpersons were ignored during the DDB meeting conducted in various districts of J&K UT. He said Panchayat Conference will never tolerate such discrimination with the elected BDC Chairpersons.

The BDC chairpersons said that if they are not taken in to confidence in developmental decisions they will sit before Raj Bhawan and will resign from this so called post.
