DC Kargil reviews preparations for International Yoga Day, 2020

KARGIL:  2020: Deputy Commissioner and CEO, LAHDC, Kargil Baseer ul Haq Choudhary reviewed the preparations for International Yoga Day, 2020 in the district at a meeting of the concerned officers here today.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Kargil Tsering Motup, Chief Education Officer Nazir Ahmad Wani, Programme Head All India Radio Kargil Sonam Lotus, District Youth Service and Sports Officer Muhammad Hussain Rehnuma, Assistant Director Information Muhammad Ali Tak, District Coordinator Nehru Yuva Kendra (NYK) Kargil Jigmet Spaldon besides other concerned officers attended the meeting.

During the course of the meeting, the DC said that the theme for this year’s International Yoga Day on June 21 is “Yoga at Home and Yoga with Family.”

Baseer said that due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic situation, the International Yoga Day will be observed at home with family and there will be no mass gathering.

The DC said that to stay active and fit during the Coronavirus lockdown, people should practice yoga at their homes, with participation from the entire family.

Meanwhile, the ADC Kargil and other officers concerned informed the DC about various yoga activities proposed during the International Yoga Day which would include the practice of yoga asanas at the District headquarters as well as the Sub Divisional and Tehsil headquarters by the members of the LAHDC Kargil, senior officers and other officers of the District Administration, Physical Education Instructors of the Youth Service and Sports Department, volunteers of NYK and different families.

The DC instructed officers concerned to invite prominent citizens of the district and personalities from various backgrounds like elected representatives, bureaucrats, educationists and sports persons to join the celebration of yoga day with family members at their homes.

Baseer also asked the Programme Head AIR Kargil and AD Information to spread awareness about the importance and health benefits of yoga to the general public. He also directed the officers of NYK and Youth Services and Sports for organizing the event in various blocks of the district by trained yoga instructors and volunteers.

The DC also said that The Sub-Divisional Magistrates and Tehsildars would coordinate the event in their respective jurisdictions.

Regarding the holding of a video yoga contest during the yoga day celebrations for school children, the DC instructed the Chief Education Officer and AD Information to spread advance information to the heads of schools and through AIR Kargil and social media.

It was decided during the meeting that the top 3 best video winners will be felicitated with certificates and cash prizes and the interested school children can send their video entries on the Whats App Number 9469324210 by or before 8:00 AM on 21st June, 2020 during the International Yoga Day.
