KARGIL: Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC, Kargil Feroz Ahmad Khan in presence of Deputy Commissioner and CEO, LAHDC, Kargil Baseer ul Haq Choudhary inaugurated the newly established dedicated Civil Services Examination Section of District Library Kargil here today.
Principal DIET Kargil Muhammad Ali Bhuttoo Nowsheen, Executive Engineer R&B II Kargil Kacho Mehmood Ali, Tehsildar Kargil Muhammad Salim Wazir, District Librarian, District Library Kargil Zahoor Ahmad, other district officers and media persons were present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, the CEC while appreciating the step taken by the DC Kargil in establishing the first ever of its kind Civil Services Examination Section in UT Ladakh termed the commencement of the centre a right decision at the right time which will give an ideal opportunity to the Civil Services aspirants who have reached back home from different parts of the country due to the COVID-19 lockdown.
While urging the Civil Services aspirants and students to get full benefit from the repository of noteworthy books of the Civil Services Section, the CEC said that they can avail the facilities after proper registration while students can also take books home also after a week’s time.
The CEC also underlined the importance of libraries as assets for the younger generation and assured that steps will be taken to make judicious use of the space available in District Library Kargil to restructure and facelift it to provide more reading space and infrastructural facilities to the readers. He said that expansion of facilities in all block level libraries will also be carried out in a phased manner.
Earlier, Deputy Commissioner Kargil Baseer ul Haq Choudhary informed the CEC that different varieties of books on Civil Services Examinations including those on General Studies, Geography, History, Economy, Polity, Current Affairs, Mental Aptitude, Reasoning and Logic, subject specific books in Science, Arts and Commerce besides books for other examinations like IIT, JEE, NEET, Banking Services and other variety of exams have been made available while keeping in view the demands of the aspirants and students. The collection of books include the best available in the market and which are used by the top most Civil Services institutes in the country.
As regards to the procedure of registration, membership and issuance of books in favour of the aspirants, the DC informed that students have to follow a simple registration process by furnishing their details to the official email ID of the District Librarian Kargil [email protected] following which a separate Civil Services Section I Card will be issued in their favour.
The DC said that for issuance of books, the students have to authenticate their details from the concerned Lambardar of their respective area. He further said that to facilitate registration of aspirants and students, a separate link of District Library will also be created on the official website of District Kargil.
Later, the CEC and DC also inspected various sections of the library including the Reading Room, General Section and E-Resource Center.
The DC Kargil directed the Senior Librarian to bring out a notice inviting interested Civil Services aspirants and to create reading space for maximum 40 readers while ensuring proper social distancing norms and other related protocols like wearing masks, gloves, hand washing and use of sanitizers.
Meawnhile, the CEC and DC Kargil hailed the efforts of District Librarian Kargil Zahoor Ahmad for bringing notable reforms in infrastructural and reading facilities in District Library Kargil which has given fillip to the culture of reading in the district.
