Srinagar, May 27 : Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory Wednesday witnessed highest ever spike in the COVID-19 positive cases as 162 people tested positive for the virus taking the total number of positive cases in the UT to 1921. This surge in Covid cases comes amid two deaths, that were reported earlier in the day.

Officials told, that among new 162 cases, 32 were tested positive at SKIMS, 89 at CD hospital, 18 at Army’s command hospital Udhampur and rest at other private labs.

Among 162 new cases, 124 belong to Kashmir division while as 38 are from Jammu division, officials said, adding that the total number of positive cases in Kashmir division have reached to 1535 including 759 recoveries and 23 deaths while as total number of positive cases in Jammu division has reached to 386 including 95 recoveries and 3 deaths.

They added that total number of active cases in Jammu and Kashmir are 1041 including 753 from Kashmir division and 288 from Jammu division.

“Cases tested positive in J&K include 4  from Anantnag, 27 from Kulgam,20 from Srinagar, 2 from Budgam, 26 from Kupwara, 12 from Shopian, 10 from Baramulla, 2 from Bandipora and 21 from Pulwama in Kashmir division while as 38 from Jammu include 11 each from Udhampur and Poonch, 4 from Jammu, 3 each from Kuthua, Samna and Reasi, 2 from Rajouri and one from Ramban,” officials disclosed.

Dr G H Yatoo Nodal officer for covid-19 at SKIMS told  that out of 973 samples tested at SKIMS on Wednesday, 22 were found positive including 18 from Kulgam and 04 from Srinagar.

Out of 1325 samples, ten patients were tested positive at SKIMS on Tuesday evening including 04 from Baramulla, 03 from Kupwara, 02 from Shopian and one from Khospora.

Nodal officer for covid-19 at GMC Srinagar Salim Khan said that out of samples tested at CD hospital 89 were tested positive. 120 samples are under process and 550 more samples were received today, he said.

He further added that two medical interns of GMC Srinagar and driver of CD hospital are among new positive cases. Officials from JVC Bemina said that out of 524 samples tested at the hospital none was tested positive.

They further added that 15 more patients were discharged from the hospital including 07 from Anantnag, 02 from Bandipora ,04 Budgam and one each Pulwama and Kargil.

They further added that so far there is recovering rate of 84 per cent and out of 225 admitted 189 including 10 pregnant ladies have been recovered so far.

Lt Col Inam Danish Khan from Army’s Command hospital Udhampur said that 18 persons including 11 from Udhampur, 3 each from Reasi and Kupwara and one from Ramban were tested positive at the hospital in last 24 hours.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday two more deaths of covid-19 positive patients were witnessed in Jammu and Kashmir taking toll of covid-19 related deaths in union territory to 26 including 23 from Kashmir division and 03 from Jammu division.

The two persons who died include a 55-year-old man from Fateh Kadal srinagar and 70 year old man from Sarnal Anantnag.

Dr Salim Khan Nodal officer for covid-19 at GMC Srinagar told, that a 55-years-old male,  resident of Fateh Kadal, Srinagar was shifted to CD Hospital Srinagar from SICU SMHS on 18/5/20 as operated case of Exploratory Laprotomy with Appendectomy after testing COVID positive.

Patient was kept intubated in SICU SMHS Hospital and then extubated, kept on NIV and then was shifted to CD Hospital, he said adding that at CD Hospital, patient was improving and hemodynamically stable and was maintaining saturation without oxygen. On Wednesday at 4 pm patient developed sudden cardiac arrest and was immediately intubated, coupled to ventilator and resuscitated, he said, adding that patient developed another cardiac arrest and died instantly.

Principal GMC Anantnag, Dr Showkat Geelani, said that a 70 year old man from Sarnal with underlying ailments was admitted to the hospital on May 25 and died on Tuesday after which samples were taken for covid-19 testing. His body was kept in mortuary and his reports came positive on Wednesday, he said adding the patient was suffering from pneumonia besides other underlying problems

As per the daily information bulletin 146,152 persons in Jammu and Kashmir are under observation while as 31,919 persons have been kept under home quarantine besides that 1041 persons are in hospital isolation while as 57 persons are under hospital quarantine.

According to the bulletin, 77,266 persons have completed surveillance period and 35,843 persons are under home surveillance besides that so far results of 145,162 samples are available. Out of 145,162 the number of samples tested negative stands at 143,241 while as 192  have been tested positive, among them 1041  are active and 854 persons have recovered and 26 persons have died.
