Kupwara, May 16 : ChakKigam Battalion under the aegis of Lolab Sector and Kilo Force organised an interaction with Gujjars and Bakarwals of Kandi-Kigam Bowl on 16 May 2020.

The Battalion reached out to these people who form part of an economically weaker section of the Kashmiri society and lent a sympathetic ear to their problems. The Battalion distributed masks, sanitisers and hygiene items to the Gujjars and Bakarwals to help them protect themselves against the spread of COVID-19. The children were distributed with study material in order to facilitate them in keeping in touch with their studies. Meritorious students who have performed well in the year 2019-20 were awarded with Indoor games material like Chess, Carrom Boards etc to motivate them to keep excelling in their studies.

The Battalion also provided fruits, eatables and relief kits to these people to oil the wheels of their lives in this difficult time of pandemic. The necessitous families were also provided with Solar lights to ignite a ray of hope in their lives. The medical team of the Battalion provided medical assistance to this unprivileged group of people of the area during the interaction.

Lastly, all the Gujjars and Bakarwals present for the event took a pledge along with the Army to lend wings to country’s fight against COVID-19.

The effort of the Battalion to reachout to Gujjars and Bakarwals was appreciated by the locals and they thanked 47 RR Battalion for the concern and support to the villagers.
