J&K athletes participate in 1st online Intl Taekwondo championship

Jammu, May 12: Taekwondo Athletes from J&K participated in the 1st Daedo International Online Taekwondo Poomsae Championships, which was organized by World Taekwondo Europe, WTE affiliated to World Taekwondo, WT.

The association in its statement said that this was for the first time in the history of Taekwondo that such an event was organized. More than 1200 Players from around 75 Countries all over the world participated in the said championship and showcased their talent by performing at home during this pandemic situation when whole world is suffering with Covid 19.

Players From J&K Sanvi Sharma (Jammu), Kushagra Sharma (Jammu) ,Achutam Dev singh(Jammu), Bhanu Pratap Atri(Jammu), Shenaz Parveen (Kargil) , Abbas khuraheed(Srinagar), Danish Manzoor (Baramulla) ,Burhan Din Khan (Doda), Hashim Majeed (Srinagar),and Fayaz Ahmad (Bandipora)represented the country, the statement said.

It said Where, Kushagra Sharma, Danish Manzoor, Sanvi Sharma and Shenaz Parveen made into top 20 and 30 list all over the world in their respected divisions. All these athletes were trained and prepared by Master Atul Pangotra for the said championships through online coaching seminars.

Statement said that  the main aim of the event was the promotion of Taekwondo Poomsae which is an important part of Taekwondo Sport and to keep the athletes motivited to train in these tough times of the lockdown.

It said, Other than the athletes, Atul Pangotra who is a twice Commonwealth Medalist, International Referee and Coach was selected to officiate in the event.

The association said the participants had to join the live stream on YouTube held by World Taekwondo Europe and had to showcase their Poomsae skills one by one. After successfully completed this event by WTE now J&K Taekwondo Association President Sh. D.N Pangotra suggest all District Associations to conduct online Coaching camps and District Level Competitions. JKTA will conduct very soon an Online J&K Level Competition, Belt Grading and Coaching camps for all the players of J&K. So he suggested all the coaches and athletes to Stay at Home and Practice Taekwondo regularly for the forthcoming events.

It furthermore said that Vice President, J&K Taekwondo Association Sh. Nissar Hussain congratulated all the participants from Jammu and Kashmir region for successfully participated in this online competition.Sh. Anuj Sharma Organising Secretary of JKTA motivated and helped all the participants for registration. Sh Zaheer Abbass Khan and Sh Vinod Grewal from Rajasthan supported JKTA athletes to fulfill their eligibilities online.
