Jammu May 07: The Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) is securing its Safai Karamcharis (SKs) through insurance covers.In a meeting here JMC Mayor, Chander Mohan Gupta and Deputy Mayor, Purnima Sharma talked about different insurance schemes for SKs in presence of Avny Lavasa, The Mayor informed that permanent JMC employees, Casual SKs (including daily wagers) and outsourced SKs will get benefits of the insurance and other schemes.
“Permanent SKs are covered under General Provident Fund Rules (those working prior of January, 2010) and State Life Insurance Scheme as per J&K Medical (Attendance1990 and also covered under Group Personal Accident Insurance with an annual risk cover of Rs 10 lakh,” the Mayor stated.
He also said that the casual SKs are to be covered under Employee State Insurance Act and under Provident Fund with matching share to be provided by JMC and also born by the employee.
“SKs engaged from empanelled NGOs are to be covered under Employee State Insurance Act and this is the first time ever that all categories of SKs are being provided insurance act and this first time ever that all cetegories of Sks and being providing insurance cover”he maintained.
He also said that the SKs are frontline workers of JMC and their welfare is central to the progress of the Corporation.
