GoI’s big push to develop UT Ladakh as an organic region

Leh, April 30:  A massive fund of about ₹ 500 core was sanctioned under Special Development Package 2020-21 for Mission Organic Development Initiative of Ladakh initiated by the LAHDC, Leh for UT Ladakh and both Leh and Kargil district will get equal share from ₹ 500 in achieving the aim of converting Ladakh into an organic region by 2025.

The Chairman/Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC, Leh Gyal P. Wangyal and Executive Councillors of LAHDC, Leh thanked Hon’ble Prime Minister Sh Narendra Modi, Hon’ble Home Minister Sh Amit Shah, Hon’ble Minister of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare GoI Shri Narendra Singh Tomar and Hon’ble Lt. Governor Shri Radha Krishna Mathur for sanctioning number of major and minor projects under MODI aiming big push to the agriculture, horticulture and agro based sectors in Ladakh.

Some of the major projects sanctioned under SDP for MODI schemes are Rs 50 crore Value Chain: Development and Production Projects,Rs50 crore for creation of water / resource/conservation –Dip irrigation, sprinkler irrigation and water harvesting system and Rs 125.540 crore for Protected Cultivation under which Green House wooden Structure @ Rs 2900/Sq. Mtrs. for 52 Sq. Mtrs area per beneficiary and ₹ 34 crore for construction of Earthen Commercial Green House having poly-carbonated sheet on south –west side @ Rs 12.0 lacs per unit on 90% subsidy and many more.

It is to mention that in March 2019, the Mission Organic Development Initiative of Ladakh initiated by the LAHDC, Leh was unanimously voted in General Council Meeting to achieve the aim of converting Leh into an organic and sustainable agriculture district by 2025 under the leadership of the then Chairman/CEC Jamyang Tsering Namgyal/sitting MP Ladakh. Later, under the guidance of Executive Councillor for Agriculture Phuntsog Stanzin, a Study Committee of Hill Council Leh headed by Dr. Stoban Senior Scientist DIHAR, Leh went to exposure tour of Sikkim and other states known for organic farming and after detail study designed and compiled up their research work through a book having detailed policy, strategy and action plan under MODI.
