Leh: Two more people were reported to have tested positive for novel coronavirus in Ladakh, taking the total toll in the Union Territory to eight. The two persons, who have been tested positive for the virus, are the wife and son of the patient Sajad Ali, who was tested positive some days ago.
“We have received test results of 34 patients out of which only two have been tested positive. They are the wife and son of a patient, who was already tested positive,” Rigzin Samphel, Commissioner Secretary and official spokesperson of Ladakh UT, said.
He said that the other suspects kept under active surveillance have been discharged after they were tested negative for coronavirus. With two more persons testing positive, the confirmed cases of the virus in the UT have now risen to eight, including one medical staff and one Army personnel.
Both the positive cases were quarantined in Hospital facility in Leh and they were shifted to isolation ward at SNM Hospital Leh, Samphel told. Considering the prevailing situation, he appealed to the general public to restrain from mass gathering, refrain from believing in rumours spreading through social media and strictly follow the health precautionary measures given by the World Health Organization and Health Department of UT Administration.
In view of the new Corona cases in Leh district, some area of Chuchot Yokma has also been brought under containment area. Briefing about the quarantine area of Chuchot Gongma Samphel updated about the continuous close watch by the District Administration and extended his appreciation for the support of residents of the quarantined area. Regarding the condition of all six positive cases of UT Ladakh, their condition is stable and they are under constant monitoring of the Health Team, states the Media Bulletin.
In an effort by the Health Department of Leh district towards measures taken for COVID-19 infection prevention and control, Immunization Day was observed in the Health Centre at containment zone of Chuchot Gongma where 13 beneficiaries were given vaccination; one normal delivery was conducted at PHC Chuchot on 16 March and both the mother and child are healthy.
The department also conducted Routine Immunization programme at various villages of Stakna, Martselang, Changa, Shang and Matho. Training of doctors and pharmacists was conducted at PHC Khaltse; awareness programme to all pharmacists of Leh block; awareness campaign on COVID-19 in Magyu village; and COVID-19 training to all FMPHW of Nubra block conducted.
