Gurdaspur Mar 13 : A private tourist bus fell down the bridge near Dhariwal town in the district. One passenger was killed and about 18 passengers were injured. The condition of many of the injured is critical and some have lost their hands and feet. The accident occurred on Amritsar GT Road. The injured have been admitted to hospitals. The bus was going from Jammu to Amritsar. Most of the passengers in the bus were from Jammu.
According to the information, the bus belonged to Jamuna Travel. When it reached Dhariwal, the driver’s control over the bridge deteriorated. Due to this the bus fell down from the bridge. There was chaos and shouts as soon as the bus fell. People nearby saw the bus falling down and ran away.
People immediately informed the police and started relief and rescue operations. People started evacuating passengers trapped in the bus. People were transported to hospitals. During this time one passenger was killed and 18 passengers were injured. Some people have also had their arms and legs amputated. The female passenger killed in the accident has been identified as Rama Mahajan of Sanjay Mahajan of Trikuta Nagar, Jammu. She was going to Amritsar to meet her daughter Nitika. The daughter works in the Amritsar Passport Office.
According to the information, when the Jammu bus from Jammu reached in front of Dhariwal, the driver did not notice the stopper already installed in the path of a truck overturned on the same road and this deteriorated his control of the bus. After this, the bus became unbalanced and overturned.
