Jammu Mar 12 : People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leader Abdul Qayyum Wani opted out of politics forever. He announced it here on Thursday. He said that he would now work as a member of civil society. Before joining politics, Wani was a trade union leader in Jammu and Kashmir and was known for voicing the employees working in various departments.

Wani said that he took the decision on 5 August last year as a protest against the abolition of special status (Article 370) of Jammu and Kashmir by the central government and dividing the erstwhile state into two union territories. Let us tell you that Wani was one of the mainstream leaders who was released about a month ago after being kept in central jail for six months.

Significantly, Wani, along with his government job, also contested the parliamentary elections on the PDP ticket from North Kashmir last year after resigning from the post of trade union leader.
