Srinagar: A civilian was killed and another injured in a grenade attack on a police party whereas militants shot dead a civilian in Tral on Friday, police said.
An official said that unknown persons lobbed a grenade outside Maharaj Gunj Police Station in downtown area of Srinagar. He said that in the attack, two civilians suffered splinter injuries and were immediately shifted to SMHS hospital for treatment.
“Among the injured, one person Ghulam Nabi Ahanger (62), a resident of Astan Mohalla Zainakadal succumbed to injuries,” he said. He identified the injured as Rafiq Ahmad. Soon after the attack, forces launched a hunt to trace out the assailants.
In another terror related incident, Shabir Ahmad Bhat, son of Mohammad Sideeq Bhat of Tral was shot outside his residence, leaving him severely wounded. He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital. However, he succumbed to his injury on way to the hospital. A senior police officer meanwhile said that a team has rushed to the spot and launched a manhunt to nab the assailants.
Meanwhile, security forces recovered three live hand grenades in Sopore, where militants recently opened fire, in which a Special Police Officer (SPO) and a civilian were killed and a policeman was injured, official sources said.
They said on a tip-off, security forces conducted searches in an orchard at Krankshivan, Sopore, and recovered three hand grenades. No one was arrested. Police has registered a case and started investigation, they added.
