Delhi, Jan 6, TEN Network | Delhi Assembly elections will be held on February 8 2020, announced Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora on Monday.
While the counting date has been fixed to February 11, the last date for candidates to file their nomination is January 22.
Total electors in NCT of Delhi are 1,46,92,136 and polling will be held across 13,750 polling stations.
Sunil Arora also said that ‘about 90,000 officials to be deployed for conducting free and fair polls.’
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is seeking re-election after a massive win in the last assembly polls held in 2015. The AAP won 67 seats and the remaining three went to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
This will be the first elections in Delhi after the BJP recorded a massive mandate in the Lok Sabha polls last year and swept all the seven parliamentary seats in the Capital.
In the 2015 elections, AAP won 67 of 70 seats, while BJP grabbed 3 seats. Congress failed to win a single seat.
The term of the 70-member Delhi Assembly ends on February 22. (NIE)
