SRINAGAR:

Forty-two out of the total 92 languishing projects in Srinagar district will be completed by March 2020 while another 45 projects will be completed by December 2020.

This was informed in a meeting convened here Friday under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary to review the work progress of JKIDFC-funded languishing projects in the district.

The meeting was informed that all these projects are under fast-paced execution for their earliest completion adding that periodic reviews are being held to take stock of their progress.

It was said the periodic reviews include concurrent evaluation and third-party monitoring.

The meeting was informed that these projects are worth an aggregate of over 880 crore rupees with the balance funding amounting to around 400 crore rupees provided through the Jammu & Kashmir Infrastructure Development Financial Corporation or JKIDFC Limited.

It is notable that these projects include among others 17 sports, 16 water, 8 bridge, 5 power, 5 technical education, 3 school education, 2 higher education and 1 health projects.

It was informed that in over 30 of these projects the district administration has resolved long-pending issues of land acquisition and compensation thereby enabling their resumption and completion at the earliest.

The meeting was informed that the remaining five projects are facing delay due to poor response in tendering and that these have been entrusted to a district-level committee for a review aimed at resolution of related issues.

Speaking on the occasion Dr Shahid said that henceforth fortnightly review of progress of work on these projects will be conducted at the district level in order to ensure immediate resolution of associated issues and their completion within their stipulated timeframes.
